My aunt is from Laos and her and her family has brought their food and traditions here. I never see many RUclipsrs talking about or making Laos food. When we visit her family they have sticky rice for every single meal, and I can never get enough. Over the years we have “Americanized” sticky rice with our meals lol. Of course, we still eat sticky rice with traditional Laos foods, but I love sticky rice with a fried egg, and with ramen noodles!

In Brazil we eat rice in almost every single meal, but over here we try to make rice as “loose” (don’t know if this is the right word for it) as possible, sticky rice is usually made fun of as being cooked wrong. Kinda funny how different cultures see things, I am curious to try and make sticky rice some day

I ate with a Lao family and the community several times at a Buddhist temple I used to live near. They loved my BBQ pork. I loved their sticky rice and papaya salad. I still dream about that papaya salad. So spicy. So fresh and crisp. So good. I can't even get the ingredients around here. At a water festival, the whole community brought food and one of the family I knew took my plate and filled it for me. I don't know what most of it was, but it was all so good.

The best food ever was a Thai food restaurant that served spring rolls & sticky rice & mango, it was SOOOO good... The spring rolls had a dip they called "peanut sauce" but it *looked like oil, w/chopped nuts on top* .., I hate all other peanut sauce & I always *hope & pray thatll I'll find someone somewhere* that'll tell me *how to make that sauce.* If you know, *plz tell me* 🙏

Us Hmong borrow a lot of Lao food and sticky rice is definitely one of my favorites. That and Ka poon 😋

So in my area we have a large population of people from Loas but they go by Hmong (pronounced 'Mong') is this a different cultural diet? I love Hmong food so im wondering how similar it is?

This makes my heart ache, but in a good way. Food is so important and it's not just sustenance, it holds culture and identity and can be a great symbol of belonging and comfort for people. I am so happy to learn and experience other ways of life and culture through learning about cuisines. I will definitely be tuning into the series. I'm grateful people are just out here teaching everyone this kind of thing! It's beautiful!
